Artist Statement

Title: speechless

My portrait is of a woman holding her hands in front of her mouth with palms facing outwards. The prominent element in my piece is value and contrast.

I started by creating a grid, then i mapped out where everything should be, then i added contrast and shading.

This portrait was inspired by a picture of a girl, i don't have any social or emotional symbolism in this portrait.

Goals for me as a artist is to have a more realistic drawling style, yes it helped me get a lot closer than I was but i still have a way to go.

I learned how to shade better and crosshatch. No, i expected it to be a lot worse. It will progress me further to creating more realistic artworks.

Title: Deadpool

My artwork looks like the fictional character Deadpool. Its a close up image of his left portion of the face with a katana in the picture as well. It is titled Deadpool because it depicts the fictional antihero Deadpool. The most prominent element is texture and the most prominent principle is contrast.

The piece is made by pen and ink. I mapped out where everything should be, then I traced it onto my final paper.

My poster at home inspired me, as it is a poster of Deadpool. My work does not  express any type of issue with social life.

I tried to show anger in my piece to make it seem as he is furious.

Title:Scorpion

This is a image of a scorpion in a defensive stance. He is zoomed a little to where the tail is partially missing. Color is the biggest element here.

The media used for this piece is Oil Pastel. I first used a lead pencil to sketch it out then i used oil pastels to make the color needed for the piece and to get a better blend i used a blending stump.

I was inspired to make this piece because of the zodiac Scorpio, my birthday falls into that category. The issue that is represented is you can be so colorful but yet have a nasty trick with you always, you are willing to use anytime you need. The emotion i'm trying to show is a defensive one.

My goals as a artist is to get better and find my style of art. It taught me that i don't like oil pastels in smaller areas but in bigger ones.

It taught me that i'm not very good with pastels. The final piece isn't how i imagined because i thought it could have been better, but it did help me learn this media. This will influence other medias by knowing i'm better with pastels in bigger areas instead of smaller.

My artwork depicts a lion, its right cheek isn't in the picture but the rest of the face is, it is very colorful. The title of my piece is Color Lion-King Of The Jungle. The most present features in my piece is color and expressionism.

My art media is Acrylic Paint. My tools were a Flat Brush, and Round Brush. I used the Expressionism technique and I had to layer some of the paint.

Edvard Munch inspired me to make this piece, and the big cat the Lion did as well. My piece doesn't express a social issue. The emotion I attempted to show in my piece is a calm collected expression as well as sternness.

My goals as an artist is to find my style and this did help me learn that with this me that i'm not entirely good with this media. It helped me get closer to my style but no.

I learned that i'm not entirely confident with this media. It's better than i imagined. It looks better than I thought. It will help me develop more animal like pieces.

Title: The Joker

My artwork is a depiction of The Joker from the comic/film series Batman from DC Universe. He is close up looking upwards with a angry grin on his face. The title of my piece is The Joker. Contrast and Value are the two most used elements/principles in this piece.

The media used in this piece is a mechanical graphite pencil with 0.7mm graphite in it, my finger (to blend) and a blending stump (for tighter spots). I didn't know where to start with the piece at first so i decided to start with the eyes and work my way around.

Batman Arkham Knight inspired me to make this piece of the Joker. It expresses that not everyone cloaked with a smile is one who means peace. Anger and Insanity were the expressions I wanted to express.

My goal as an artist is to find my media and look for my art style, I think this helped a lot because not only do i like how it turned out, I very much enjoyed the media that i used, so I think this helped me get closer to the media and art style I'll enjoy.

I learned that hair is extremely easy to make (if you follow the steps given). The final piece is better than I imagined, more realistic than i thought. This piece will influence my future pieces with the fact that I seem to be better at graphite pencils more than any other media.

My art piece depicts the Polynesian god of the sea, Kanaloa, his squid-like dreads are his only feature. The subject matter is a clay sculpture of the Polynesian god of the sea Konaloa. The title is Kanaloa. Form and line are the most prominent features.

My media that was used is Clay. I used clay working tools (I don't know the name of them). I used the slip and score technique.

When I think about something god-like for the sea i think of an undead looking version of a human. My art work does not convey a personal/social issue. I'm trying to show stern skull.

My goals as an artist are to find my media and develop a focus in it. This piece helped me get closer to this goal, It shows me that i'm at least decent with clay.

I learned i'm not the best with clay but can work with it. The final piece isn't how I imagined, its worse but still decent. It will probably help me to know i'm not the best with clay.

Title:Falling Sun

My piece illustrates a sun setting on the water with clouds creeping into the picture. The subject matter is a sun on the horizon going down with fog covering the bottom half and clouds and water. The most obvious element is value, and the most obvious principle is contrast.

The media I had to use for this art piece is watercolor paint. My tools for this piece was round and flat brushes. For the clouds i used a streaky type of swiping to create a texture for the clouds. The process i took was add a layer of water and then put some paint in it to evenly blend the paint into the piece.

A previous sunset i watched inspired me to make this piece. My piece doesn't express any social or personal issues. The emotion I tried to show is some form of peace or tranquility.

My personal goals as a artist is to find what my art style is and what I need to achieve it. This piece did not help me reach my goal, but it did help me learn some about it and what i liked about it and what I didn't.

I learned that I kinda enjoy watercolor painting. My final piece is better than I imagined, which is surprising for me, I imagined it to be all runny and all blended into each other. It will let me take some of the blending tips I learned and put it into future pieces.
